All it needs is the binding. I would love to finish tonight, but I know with binding I will just get frustrated. Especially if I try to do it quick. So I am walking away.
However, I couldn't just walk away from a quilt store. I stopped by because Katie Jean asked me to teach a simple class for her new quilt shop (see above). So I stopped by to show her the sample. And I left with these.
Have fun! Hopefully I will be back tomorrow evening with a finish.
Oh and by the way I have been having fun with instagram if you can't tell :)
Sorry all, I know I should stop doing this hiding thing :). Work has just been really really busy. As many of you know, I am a teacher. And, well it is the end of the trimester. So, busy busy me.
I really should have taken a picture of my desk before I cleaned it up. This has been the week of assessments. This is just a small pile of what I still need to grade. This doesn't include the language arts assessments or math. Nor does it include the ecosystem projects my students just finish.
In addition to that I have been teaching classes to teachers this week. First I did a clicker training with my staff.
I got lots of thanks yous. So it must have went well. BTW, have you hear of clickers in classrooms. They are so fantastic and fun! You can use them to get instant results on how well students are learning. It is like the thumbs up, thumbs down or show me a b c or d or using white boards, except it is instant. You can either track who is enter what answer, or you can use anonymous mood, which takes the pressure away. You can also use them for instant data on tests. These have become one of my favorite classroom tools. The instant feedback helps my teaching so much.
Then I did a school loop grade book training. It is an online grade book that can let parents instantly know how their students are doing. If you are wondering. Yes, I do keep two grade books, a paper one and an online grade book. Actually if I really am honest I keep three. I also have an excel spread sheet just for assessments.
I actually love doing the tech trainings. It is one my favorite things about my job. I feel really lucky to be part the techex team for my district. There are only a few of us and I really enjoy it. It really pushes me to make sure I am using technology in my classroom and creating 21st learners.
Wow this is sounding like a blog post for teaching blog, not a creating blog. However, often my creations have a lot to do with what I design in my classroom. If I was better at blogging I would consider having a separate teaching blog :)
Well, I am off to quilt. So, I am sure that my next post will be more on my normal topics :)
I signed up for Friday Night Sew-in this week. I didn't get spend as much time sewing as I wanted to. However, I did get this table runner top finished.
I had already sewed all the rows together. I did have to resew them a bit has my 1/4 inch seems weren't quite right. However. I think it is turning out pretty well. Now I just have to figure out how I want to quilt it.
Well, the only thing I have to celebrate this week is a whole bunch of finished and mailed bee blocks.
I am completely caught up with all my bee obligations and I just finished one of my bees. Another one only has one month left and then I signed up for the next round. Of the 4x5 modern bee.
On other note, instead of thinking, "oh look I finished a whole project. I might be able to finish some more projects before starting another project."
I thought to myself "Oh wow! I love these colors and I love this block. They look just like my husband's favorite colors. I will make him a quilt. Of course I don't have enough greens or grays, so I have started collecting and sorting fabric to make this block into a quilt.
That makes my total WIPs/UFOs a whole bunch that I am not even will to admit right now. If I did, then I might have to admit I have a problem. And if admit I have a problem, I might have to see someone about my starting new projects addiction. And the fact of the matter is, I am just not willing to do that.
As the weekend comes to an end, I like to take a moment to think of all the things I accomplished and everything that did not get done.
Well lets start with the good.
I finished all my blocks for the 3 x 6 bee and I got everything into the mail by Saturday. Nothing like procrastinating.
I used a string block off set inside a square and I love it! I am actually going to make a whole lap quilt from these blocks. I even picked up some more fabric in my color way (like I need more fabric)
I also made it to the monthly meeting of the Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild. Some very lovely pictures went up today. As always very inspirational work.
We also spent a lot of time with family. Pictures would have been a good idea.
Today we went to a winery in Sonoma. Here is Suzie enjoying our trip.
I was playing with my camera in manual mode for a bit. I am really out of practice from when I used to do black and white photography. I guess it is just going to take a bunch more practice.
Now on to the bad.
Let's start with scraps gone bad.
String quilt blocks means you need string and this is the results of searching my scrap basket for it.
Also all the time spent with family meant that I didn't get my cleaning done this weekend or laundry. Wow, I just realized I don't have clean pants for next week... I am off to take care of that!
Sorry I have been hiding. I have been very busy since last wednesday. I had ever intention of posting what I have been up to, but have been running out of time. And I have been spending time finishing up my bee blocks that are due to mail in 3 days. Oh and by the way if just one more person decides to follow me I will be hosting another giveaway, because I think 70 is a great number :).
On to my week in progress.
I am done with my 4 x 5 modern bee blocks:
I would love to say that these are going out in the mail tomorrow, but it is too late for me too address them tonight and I can't access flickr from my work, darn internet filtering, so more than likely they will go out on Friday.
Oh and I spent all weekend with my husband.... cleaning. We cleaned the room he was using for his office. Moved my office around and added his office furniture to my office and moved all my sewing and crafting stuff into his old office (a spare bedroom). So the good part is I have a sewing room I can close the door on. So far it hasn't been bad sharing an office, we will see how this goes :)
I didn't do anything with these:
3 x 6 bee - I don't think I will sign up next time, I just have too many projects going on, but these will be in the mail by the 15th.
Embroidery 101 Quilt Along - All 9 blocks are done. Two blocks even have the embroidery done. I have even started another one. The worst part is the quilt along has all 9 blocks done. I totally slacked on this one.
Kaleidoscopic quilt along - My kites are sewn, just not pressed.
